FAREWELL, MOM

Specimen Films is producing Ribal Chedid’s next short film, provisionally entitled Farewell, mom. The film was selected at the ShorTS IFF 2024 Development & Pitching Training, Trieste, Italy.

His previous short Talk to me reveals Ribal Chedid’s talent for simple yet daring cinematographic forms for unspoken family relationships. He would like to continue working on the « huis clos » in Lebanon in a new but no less universal and fusional bond: the mother-son relationship, in a country where the migration of children is prepared by previous generations. War concern, departure anxiety.

Ribal Chedid is a young Lebanese filmmaker and editor, born in Beirut and currently based in Paris. After studying cinema at the Université Saint Joseph de Beyrouth (IESAV), he pursued a Master 1 in cinema at the Université de Paris 1 – Panthéon Sorbonne and then at IESA arts&culture. At IESAV, he wrote and directed his graduation short Talk to me (2022). It won the « Best Fiction Film » award at the 7th Tétouan International Film School Festival (Morocco), as well as the « Best Performance » and « Outstanding » awards at the 21st Beijing Film Academy International Student Film and Video Festival. Talk to me represented Lebanon at the 33rd edition of the Journées Cinématographiques de Carthage, in the « Carthage Ciné-Promesse » section. It has also been screened at over 17 festivals in Lebanon (winning a prize at the 28th European Film Festival in Lebanon), Canada, Turkey, Germany, Egypt, Kuwait, Northern Macedonia, Italy, the United States, Morocco, France and Belgium at BSFF.

A cinephile, he was a selection jury for the 42nd edition of Munich’s Filmschoolfest and is now moving into cinema programming.
